Begins with EXPLORATION,
A new land to see.
Columbus came first,
Then Ponce De Leon,
DeSoto, Coronado,
Came across the great pond.

COLONIZATION 1607-1763
The history of our nation, our nation, our nation,
Grows with COLONIZATION,
Their number thirteen.
Religious persecution
Drove many that came.
For others hope of riches,
Then some came for fame.

REVOLUTION 1763-1783
The history of our nation, our nation, our nation,
REVOLUTION ‘gainst the British,
Who taxed us you see.
No representation,
They yearned to be free.
They fought the bloody redcoats
And won victory.

EXPANSION 1783-1860
The history of our nation, our nation, our nation,
Moved westward with EXPANSION,
Manifest Destiny.
The Louisiana Purchase, Gold Rushes, Wagon Trains,.
Indians forced on reservations,
A trail of great pain.

DIVISION 1861-1865
The history of our nation, our nation, our nation,
Was rocked with great DIVISION,
Over cruel slavery.
Rebs fought ‘gainst the Yankees,
It was Grey verses Blue.
Emancipation Proclamation,
Lincoln’s thoughts rang out true.

RECONSTRUCTION 1865-1876
The history of our nation, our nation, our nation,
Endured RECONSTRUCTION
To heal the great rift.
South came Carpetbaggers,
Rebs- they’d rise again.
One hundred years would pass by
Before things would mend.

INDUSTRIALIZATION 1877-1900
The history of our nation, our nation, our nation,
INDUSTRIALIZATION
Changed society.
A wave of inventions,
Big Cities, factories.
Immigrants were all welcomed By Lady Liberty.

PROGRESSION 1900-1914
The history of our nation, our nation, our nation,
In the age of PROGRESSION,
Corruption and greed.
Muckrakers, regulations,
Trustbusters took aim.
All the while down in Panama
The Canal won us fame.

CONFRONTATION 1914-1918
The history of our nation, our nation, our nation,
Met sudden CONFRONTATION
In World War One.
Our enemy the Germans,
Our doughboys did fight.
The warfare in trenches
Upheld democracy’s light.

DEPRESSION 1919-1939
The history of our nation, our nation, our nation,
Mired in the Great DEPRESSION,
The Stock Market Failed.
The jobs were so few,
The bread lines were so long.
FDR’s New Deal
Would bring back a song.

AGGRESSION 1939-1945
The history of our nation, our nation, our nation,
Faced enemy AGGRESSION,
In World War Two.
The Japanese and Germans
That generation’s fight,
With D-day and the A-bomb
We won with great might..

MODERNIZATION 1946-2000
The history of our nation, our nation, our nation,
Saw a time of MODERNIZATION
Men walked on the moon.
Baby-Boomers, Computers,
In ‘Nam thousands died.
King and Kennedys’ lives were taken
Dreams still seem denied.

POST-MODERNIZATION 2001-future
The future of our nation, our nation, our nation,
Now called POST-MODERNIZATION
Was changed in a day.
September Eleventh,
Two Thousand and One
New vigilance now needed
To keep freedoms won.
