Baroness

Baroness records The Blue Record at The Track Studio with John Congleton to be release on independent metal label Relapse Records

Baroness from Savannah, Georgia assembled like a band of soldiers to record their newest and heaviest record to date. They achieved their first break by being featured on MTV Headbanger’s Ball after the release of their first album on Relapse. Although they were expecting to be recording at Pachyderm Studios in Cannon Falls, Minnesota, the guys were comfortable with the sounds for their new record they got out of The Track. The concrete jungle that is Dallas, Texas inspired some ultra heavy riffs for the guys in Baroness. They started their adventure by watching the sequel to the Da Vinci Code, and then settled in by abruptly duct taping a pig mask to the studio mannequins. They justified this behavior by naming the pig Ziggy and shocking themselves with anti static guns. They were well behaved and drank their morning espresso before cranking out metal in the afternoon. The bassist, Summer liked our whale like coffee mugs so much, we decided to give them to him as a gift.

Pete, the guitarist had just gotten back from being deployed in the Middle East, an experience that most definently found an outlet in the music of Baroness. The frontman John Baizley does all the artwork for Baroness and numberous other bands. Recently he was just commissioned to do artwork for Guitar World magazine. Baroness uses custom BadCat amplifiers and First Act and Electrical Guitar Company guitars. They commonly share the road with fellow Relapse artists Mastadon and Ghengis Tron. Other prominent Relapse artists include Voivod, The Dillinger Escape Plan, Pig Destroyer, and Brian Posehn. Blue Record spent one week on the Billboard Top 200 at 117 and topped the Heatseekers chart for 12 weeks at number 1. Finally, my contention is that although a mystery of sorts, these guys named their band after the lyrics to “Killer Queen.” Watch out for these guys on their latest and greatest tour with The Deftones and Metallica!
